Terms of Business
The basis on which we carry out repairs and IT work — written to be read, not just agreed to.
Last updated: 29 October 2026
These terms apply to repairs, IT support, remote support and related services provided by Cosmic Computers Ltd (company number 12372197). Business IT support contracts also have a separate service agreement, which takes priority over these terms where they differ. Nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer.
1. Quotes and approval
- We’ll explain the likely cost before starting any chargeable work, and we won’t go beyond what you’ve agreed without asking you first.
- Some faults need diagnosis before an accurate price can be given. If a diagnosis charge applies, we’ll tell you before we start.
- Estimates are our best judgement based on the information available. If we find something unexpected, we’ll contact you before going further.
2. Appointments and visits
- Home visits, business visits and drop-offs are by appointment.
- Please let us know as early as possible if you need to rearrange.
3. Your data and backups
- We take great care with your data, but computer faults and repairs can carry a risk of data loss. Where possible, please make sure you have a backup of important files before handing over a device — or ask us and we can try to take one for you first.
- We’ll warn you before any work that carries a particular risk to your data, such as reinstalling an operating system.
- Data recovery is carried out on a best-effort basis; we can’t guarantee every file can be recovered.
- How we handle personal information on your devices is explained in our privacy policy.
4. Parts and software
- We’ll tell you whether a replacement part is original or a good-quality compatible part.
- Replaced parts can be returned to you on request; otherwise we’ll recycle them responsibly.
- You’re responsible for having valid licences for any software you ask us to install, unless we supply them.
5. Payment
- For one-off repairs, payment is due when the work is complete, before or on collection/return of the equipment, unless we’ve agreed otherwise.
- Business accounts are invoiced, with payment due within the period shown on the invoice.
- Monthly IT support plans are billed monthly, as set out in your service agreement.
6. Our work
- We carry out all work with reasonable care and skill.
- If the same fault comes back after our repair and it’s due to our workmanship, contact us and we’ll put it right at no extra cost.
- New parts carry their manufacturer’s warranty.
- This doesn’t cover new, unrelated faults, accidental damage, liquid damage after the repair, or problems caused by later software changes or malware.
7. Uncollected equipment
Please collect your equipment promptly once we tell you it’s ready. If equipment is left uncollected for more than 90 days, we’ll contact you in writing using the details you gave us. If it’s still not collected, we may sell, recycle or securely dispose of it in line with the Torts (Interference with Goods) Act 1977, and use any proceeds towards money owed. Any storage devices will be securely wiped first.
8. Cancelling (consumers)
If you agree a service with us away from our premises (for example at your home) or at a distance (by phone or online), you normally have 14 days to cancel. If you ask us to start work within those 14 days, you’ll pay for the work done up to the point you cancel, and once the service is fully completed the right to cancel ends.
9. Liability
- We don’t exclude liability where it would be unlawful to do so, including for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud.
- We’re not responsible for losses that weren’t foreseeable, or for problems caused by pre-existing faults, third-party software or services, or information you didn’t tell us.
- For business customers, our total liability is limited to the amount paid for the service concerned, and we’re not liable for loss of profits, business or data except where caused by our negligence.
10. Complaints
If you’re not happy, please tell us straight away — email info@cosmiccomputers.co.uk or call 01225 805250. We’ll always try to put things right.
11. Law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.
